About the Blog

Thank you for your interest in writing for the Blog. The Blog serves to build an online presence reflecting FIDM’s reputation as a leading educational institution for graphic design and digital media by developing compelling content that informs and inspires both professionals and aspiring graphic designers and filmmakers. The Blog illustrates the range of opportunities within digital media and graphic design fields, and how FIDM’s Digital Media and Graphic Design programs prepare students for their future careers within these industries.

FIDMDigitalArts’s editorial style, voice and tone

The goal of FIDMDigitalArts is to first and foremost, captivate our reader. The tone of the articles read on FIDMDigitalArts may vary depending on the topic at hand, but our goal is to engage with our audience in a professional and informed voice, demonstrating the highest caliber of integrity and excellence. Although professional, the voice of submitted works may be friendly, relaxed and conversational, offering a point of view. The topics covered on the Blog must also offer the opportunity to incorporate visually stimulating images and video.

Article length and expectations

We suggest that feature articles be no longer than 2,000 words in length, while departments and special interest articles may be as short as 150-300 words.

How to submit

Submit articles and story pitches to with the words “EDITORIAL SUBMISSION” in the subject line and indicate the article category. We accept Microsoft Word, TEXT and HTML files. If we select your article for publication, we will contact you regarding images and visuals. Please note that we do not accept sponsored posts from brands or vendors.

 Authors should provide

Please include your full name, job title, phone number and website (if applicable). If we select your article for publication, we will also invite you to contribute a 150-word bio about yourself and photograph. We are especially interested in submissions from current or graduated FIDM Digital Media and FIDM Graphic Design Students, and professionals working in creative fields of graphic design and/or digital media.

What to expect after submission

We do our best to respond to all editorial inquiries, but be aware that we may not respond to every inquiry. Allow at least three weeks for a response. In our commitment to quality and consistency, please understand that we will not accept all submissions, however, we will do our best to send you a brief explanation as to why your piece was rejected. All articles will be edited for accuracy, clarity and to meet FIDM’s Editorial Style Guidelines.

Editorial Calendar

The current editorial calendar for the Blog is as follows:

  • Mondays: Industry News (specific to digital media or graphic design)
  • Tuesdays: Trends in Graphic Design or topics of interest relating to FIDM’s Graphic Design/Branding program)
  • Wednesdays: Entertainment Design (movie trailers/video game trailers and articles relating to FIDM’s Digital Media program as it relates to the entertainment industry or Graphic Design/Entertainment program)
  • Thursdays: Famous Designers/Filmmakers or How-To (digital media tips, tricks and tutorials or graphic design tips, tricks and tutorials)
  • Fridays: Film Friday (topics of interest relating to FIDM’s Digital Media program)

  • Careers: advice for students and entry level digital media/graphic design job applicants regarding types of careers, salaries, job interviewing, internship, reel/graphic portfolio advice
