Favorite Music: Hip hop! Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, The Game, Immortal Technique, Jin
Dream Job: He came to FIDM with dreams of becoming a music video director, but as technology evolves, he is considering starting his own marketing company making viral videos for the web.
Biggest Accomplishment: Working as a videographer to film behind-the-scenes videos for Sean “Diddy” Coomb‘s viral web campaign for his 2011 Last Train to Paris tour.
Industry Heroes: Music video director/editor Matt Alonzo, producer/musician Dantay “Taydoe” Kidd
Chong has worked as an intern major marketing/public relations companies like Cashmere Agency, which represents musical artists like YG, New Boyz and Snoop Dogg. He also worked for Skee TV, a marketing and production company where he got the chance to meet one of his idols, Matt Alonzo, first-hand. How did he land the jobs? By being persistent and tenacious, emailing his favorite music video directors non-stop during his senior year of high school. Working with his idols like Alonzo has been “priceless,” he says.
“What I love about film making is the process that occurs in order to have a successful product at the end,” he says. “There are several steps which are not easy, but the most rewarding part that I love is watching the reaction from the audience of the final product.”

Outside of learning programs like Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign in FIDM’s Graphic Design program, Balanza is into skateboarding, skating, surfing, and making music. His love for graphics came from making flyers for bands, events, and other organizations in high school.
“I like going to FIDM because of all the people I meet,” he says. “You tend to meet people in the industry that you would never be able to meet anywhere else.”

In the video above, meet Christa Morris, a fifth-quarter Graphic Design/Entertainment Student who shows you how to build a movie poster for the upcoming feature film Columbiana using Photoshop. Christa also loves to crochet, and is a photographer and avid blogger when she isn’t designing movie posters at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. Read more about Christa below:

“In high school I was always the ‘artsy one,'” she says. “I created posters for rallies with cheap paint! I wanted to take my passion for drawing and creativity to the next level and the graphic design major fit perfectly.”
Design Skills: Drawing, warping and creating stylized type in Illustrator, designing movie posters and editing photos in Photoshop, blogging and designing blogs, taking lifestyle and wedding photography.
Why she chose graphic design: “Back in the ‘MySpace days,’ I used to hack my HTML and make it look how I wanted. When I began blogging, I did the same thing and now I create custom designs for bloggers like me! I also work for a church where I get to do a lot of graphics for the student ministries department and work with my photography.”
Dream Job: Working at an ad agency to create key art (a.k.a. movie posters for feature films), or become a business owner creating photography, prints and paintings.

MP8 Graphics Inspired by: “My inspiration for the graphics was generally all about Manny Pacquiao’s life and career not only as a boxer but someone who is versatile in anything that he challenged himself to do. I wanted to create graphics and packaging that is timeless. Manny will forever be known for all of his accomplishments.”
