FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is gearing up for its annual DEBUT Runway Show this weekend, which attracts nearly 10,000 people over the course of three days. DEBUT features designs by graduating students in FIDM’s Fashion Design and Theatre Costume Design Advanced Study programs, as well as Interior Design, Textile Design Students.

Many FIDM Digital Media Alumni and Students are involved in DEBUT, working with FIDM Productions to develop captivating motion graphics, short videos and music that help to set the mood and capture the essence of each students’ fashion designs during the live runway show. FIDM Productions also films and edits the live DEBUT Runway Show for television broadcast.

From filming, to editing, sound design and motion graphics, FIDM Digital Media Students and Alumni have a well-rounded background in all aspects of video production using programs like Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Pro Tools and Avid. Students emerge with a thorough understanding of all aspects of the digital production workflow, from pre-production through post-production.

For the last several years, DEBUT has been held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. In addition to the industry, the runway show is also attended by high school students from around the country, friends and family of the graduating students, fellow FIDM Students, and FIDM Staff and Faculty. A special invitation-only pre-party is attended by high school students who are members of official FIDM High School Fashion Clubs and features celebrity guests, eyelash bars, and a DJ.
