YouTube Reps Visit FIDM! Check out a Video from the “YouTube Stylist Challenge” Filmed by & Starring Digital Media Students
YouTube hosted an event that included a Stylist Challenge on FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising’s L.A. Campus this week. FIDM Students were invited to break into teams of three to act as stylist, model, and videographer, to style and film a runway-ready outfit in 10 minutes.
One of the teams, the “Creative Captivators” developed the video below, styled by FIDM Apparel Industry Management Student, Anthony Hernandez, modeled by FIDM Digital Media Student, Richae Tolentino, and filmed by Digital Media Student, Devonte Glover.
Representatives from YouTube stayed on campus for a few hours, discussing how individuals can use the video-sharing Website to market themselves and enhance their personal brand. With more than 4 billion daily views, and 800 million users, YouTube has become a world leader in social media and online innovation.
As technology evolves and brands continue to incorporate YouTube and other forms of online video into their advertising and brand marketing strategy, FIDM Digital Media Students who study all aspects of short film-making like editing, motion graphics, sound design and digital composition, will likely have new job opportunities in the online video industry.
Glover, who filmed and edited the video seen below, says that meeting with YouTube representatives helped him understand how to brand himself as an aspiring creative professional.
“YouTube can serve as a corridor to get myself out there in the industry, as well as a way to start developing a name and a brand for my self as a videographer, photographer, and motion graphic artist,” he says. “I learned a lot about branding myself in such a short time frame. I learned how important it is to develop a style, and being able to express myself in a way that connects with a group of people. I feel that once you learn and understand these elements it will make you a better artist.”
