In the video above, meet HJ Chong, a fourth-quarter Digital Media Student who loves film making and hip hop music and shows off his After Effects skills while working on a music video.

Name: H.J. Chong

Favorite Music: Hip hop! Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, The Game, Immortal Technique, Jin
Dream Job: He came to FIDM with dreams of becoming a music video director, but as technology evolves, he is considering starting his own marketing company making viral videos for the web.
Biggest Accomplishment: Working as a videographer to film behind-the-scenes videos for Sean “Diddy” Coomb‘s viral web campaign for his 2011 Last Train to Paris tour.
Industry Heroes: Music video director/editor Matt Alonzo, producer/musician Dantay “Taydoe” Kidd

Chong has worked as an intern major marketing/public relations companies like Cashmere Agency, which represents musical artists like YG, New Boyz and Snoop Dogg. He also worked for Skee TV, a marketing and production company where he got the chance to meet one of his idols, Matt Alonzo, first-hand. How did he land the jobs? By being persistent and tenacious, emailing his favorite music video directors non-stop during his senior year of high school. Working with his idols like Alonzo has been “priceless,” he says.

“What I love about film making is the process that occurs in order to have a successful product at the end,” he says. “There are several steps which are not easy, but the most rewarding part that I love is watching the reaction from the audience of the final product.”
