Fashion Photos by FIDM Graphic Design Grad, Alex Martino

Martino graduated from FIDM’s Graphic Design program in June 2011 and currently works as a freelance photographer and graphic designer.

“What I love about photography– much like graphic design, is I love that I can have an image in my mind and can make it come alive with a couple different resources like a camera or a computer,” he says. “I get inspiration from everywhere. I know that sounds really deep and artsy, but it’s true. I was watching a commercial once that had a bunch of balloons and instantly got an idea for a shoot.”

Martino says that prior to attending FIDM, he didn’t have photography experience, although my dad was a photographer.

“I wasn’t interested in photography until I came to FIDM,” he says. “My Digital Photography teacher, Faria Raji, and his class jump-started my interest, but it really got serious after I graduated and had some free time to experiment with ideas.”

The winning photos in Crossroads’ Fashion Photo Contest should demonstrate “the most attractive presentation of currently fashionable clothing, evaluated on the basis of originality, creativity, composition and overall quality”– and we think Martino’s photos hit the mark.

“I want to thank a couple people who, without their help, I wouldn’t be where I am today with my photography. Jessica Zimmerman for her amazing styling, Dominique Lerma for her flawless make-up, and Neave Bozorgi for all his knowledge and opportunities,” he says.
