Vote for FIDM Digital Media Student’s Video in a Contest Sponsored by Coca-Cola

Luis_headshotLuis Bucchi, a Digital Media Student at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising has submitted a video in the “Interpret Coca-Cola as an Energizing Refreshment” advertising contest, published on Website, Eyeka.com.  Bucchi’s video, featuring colorful, fast-paced graphics that he learned to develop as a student in his Motion Graphics I course taught by FIDM Instructor Ryan Nellis, has been published online at this link. The winning entry in the Video/Animation category will receive a $30,000 cash prize, and also a nomination to participate in Cannes Lions 2011, an international festival celebrating achievements in advertising and communications.

Bucchi has completed his first quarter in the Professional Designation program for Digital Media, and says that prior to coming to FIDM, he had never worked with After Effects– the program he used to complete the graphics for the video. Since the theme of the contest is centered around the concept that Coca-Cola evokes a feeling of energy, Bucchi says he explored concepts around the words “sun,” “yoga,” and “lights.” The final video clip features people dancing, playing sports, a “super hero,” and people playing music. Although he is only in his second quarter in the Digital Media program, Bucchi has a prior degree in Interface Design, and also experience designing DVD menus, interfaces for cellphones, games and software. He has also participated in other Photoshop contests on the Website worth1000.com.

“I think everybody has many ideas for design, but the problem is how they can execute them,” he says. “When you charge yourself doing the things that you love, the ideas come naturally. I love to practice sports and most of my ideas came after a soccer game, or [coming from the] gym, or running.”

Coca-Cola is accepting submissions until Monday, March 28 in three categories: Video/Animation, Design/Illustration, and Photography. The winning entries from each category will be determined by a panel of judges, however, all entries are open to an online vote where the public may choose their favorite (read: vote for Luis’s entry now!).
