Animators, Sound Designers, VFX and Computer Graphics all in one Place: VIEW Conference 2011

When I heard about the lineup for the 12th International Computer Graphics VIEW Conference, I have to admit I considered an impromptu trip to Italy. Celebrating many of the topics we love– computer graphics, interactive techniques, digital cinema, 3D animation, gaming and VFX, this year’s VIEW Conference is offering a pretty amazing lineup of creative industry pros (including four Academy Award winners).

Described as “Italy’s leading digital media conference,” VIEW 2011 boasts an outstanding list of filmmakers, computer graphics inventers, practitioners, and visionaries on its agenda for four days of “inspirational talks, extraordinary educational workshops, and astounding visual and audio experiences” from October 25 through 28 in Turin, Italy.

VIEW Conference 2011

“VIEW 2011 will continue to focus on exploring the increasingly fluid boundary between real and digital worlds. Through lectures, meetings, tributes, exhibits, screenings and demo presentations, VIEW will reveal the new digital frontier sweeping from cinema to architecture, from automotive design to advertisement, from medicine to videogames.”

Sounds pretty exciting to me. If you find yourself in Italy, premium registration is 80 € for students, 200 € for professionals and 300 € for companies. Check out this lineup of confirmed speakers:

“We are so pleased and proud to welcome our keynote speakers Sharon Calahan, Tom Wujec, Cory Doctorow, and Randy Thom to the VIEW Conference,” says conference director Maria Elena Gutierrez. “Sharon is a goddess of light, Randy adds the dimension of sound, Tom is a visionary thinker, and Cory will challenge our thinking about art and the internet.”

Also, for fans of film (and the makers of): the VIEWFest film festival is being held October 21-23 in conjunction with the VIEW Conference in which foreign filmmakers and digital artists were invited submit their Italian-themed short films, and at which director Enrico Casarosa from Disney/Pixar Animation Studios will also be introducing the Italian premiere of La Luna.
