Typography Tuesday: Veer Slideshow Mixes Grotesque Imagery with Beautiful Script

Typographer Alejandro Paul’s typeface, Poem Script, is so captivating that it makes even revolting subjects look enticing. At least, that was the statement that Veer was hoping to demonstrate in its online slideshow, “Make Anything Beautiful.”

We discovered this amusing project highlighted in Communication Arts’ typography annual (January/February 2012) where phrases like “Paper Cuts,” “Lost Luggage,” and “Bird Poop,” are artfully presented using Paul’s lovely script typeface. See examples here:

The project “juxtaposes the grand, ornate beauty of the typeface with grotesque imagery. A parallax effect adds depth as the type and images move on separate planes,” says the in-house Veer team in Communication Arts.

We did some experimenting with Poem Script ourselves (see below), which is even lovelier when applied to beautiful subject matter. You can buy Alejandro Paul’s Poem Script here for $89.00.
