Typography Tuesday: LA Times Magazine’s “50” Features Vintage Type from Garment Labels, Poker Chips, Movie Titles & More

Vintage typography fans, check out an amazing design series curated by Los Angeles Times Magazine, simply titled 50″ which highlights photo galleries of obscure objects like 50 Vogue Records, 50 Vintage Beer Cans, 50 Vegas Chips and 50 Vintage Garment Labels (shown below).

50+ Movie Titles Part 3: 1990-2011 by LA Times MagazinePublishing the best clips from television and movie title sequences, the 50 Main Titles list is broken into three parts and by decade Part 1: 1950-69, Part 2: 1970-1989, and my personal favorite, Part 3: 1990-2011 which includes opening title sequences for Baywatch, Arrested Development and the original 90210 series.

Also included in the series are great photos of 50 Homes of the Stars featuring vintage postcards of celebrity homes from Hollywood’s golden age, 50 Soda Pops, and the surprisingly detailed and typographically-driven photos in 50 Cigar Bands.

For those who are earning their Graphic Design degree or Digital Media degree at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, these galleries are especially relevant since they study courses like Typography and Motion Graphics. Even design writer, Steven Heller, has taken notice, who commented on this fun series on Print Magazine‘s design blog, Imprint.
