Herman Miller

Herman Miller Student Video Contest

Contest Title: Herman Miller’s Student Video Contest

Category: Digital Media

Who may enter: Full-time Digital Media students currently enrolled in a 2-4 year college or university within the United States, the District of Columbia, and the country of Canada except for the province of Quebec.

Cost: Free

Deadline: April 6, 2012, 5:00 p.m. Eastern time

Prize: First place—$2500
, Second place—$1500, 
Third place—$1000

Details: What makes your campus green? Answer that question in Herman Miller’s third annual Student Video Contest. From bike commuting to school-wide recycling, show us how your campus is looking out for the Earth. Be heard. Be creative. Have fun. And win up to $2,500 cash.

Videos must be no longer than three minutes and cannot have any brand logos—that includes your school’s name and mascot.
 Public vote will decide the ranking of the top three submissions. Winners will receive cash prizes.

SPD/Magazine Contest

SPD 2012 Student Design Competition

Contest Title: Society of Publication Designer’s 2012 Student Design Competition

Category: Graphic Design/Publication Design

Who may enter: Graphic Design students

Cost:

–Free for SPD Student Members (first three entries)
–$10 per entry for nonmembers
–(Membership cost is $35 annually).

Deadline: The deadline has been extended to Monday, March 12, 5 p.m. Eastern time

Prizes:

–First place: The Adobe Scholarship in Honor of B.W. Honeycutt–a $2,500 prize, the Adobe Creative Suite software, and a summer internship at one of the top magazines in New York.

–Second place: $1,000 prize, the Adobe Creative Suite software, and a summer internship at one of the top magazines in New York.

–Third place: $500 prize, the Adobe Creative Suite software, and a summer internship at one of the top magazines in New York.

–Honorable Mention: We may choose one or more entries to receive Honorable Mention status which often includes the opportunity to accept a summer internship.

–All winners will also be honored with an Award of Excellence and an invitation to SPD’s Annual Awards Gala in May 2012 in New York City. Award-winning work (including several honorable mentions) will be showcased on our student blog AND printed in our PUB 47 Design Annual along with all the professional competition winners.

Details: Every year, Society of Publication Designers holds a professional competition to find the best editorial design out there. Now students have the chance to be a part of this world-class event!

SPD/Photo Contest

SPD 2012 Student Photo Competition

Contest Title: SPD 2012 Student Photo Competition

Category: Photography

Who may enter: Graphic Design students

Cost:

–Free for SPD Student members (first three entries)
–$5 per entry for nonmembers
–(Membership cost is $35 annually).

Deadline: Monday, April 9 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time

Prizes: The Society of Publication Designer’s annual Student Photo Competition is a chance to begin your journey as a working photographer in the world of magazines — being judged by the best in the field, getting access to mentors that will teach you how to get ahead, and ultimately competing with those image-makers that you currently look up to.

Details: This year’s them is “My Heart Is At War With The Rest Of The World.”

Take those words and birth something new. Make a picture that no one has seen before, especially in the context of that phrase. Make a photograph that takes full advantage of that text; that surprises SPD judges with its contrast or shocks them with its appropriateness. Make a big idea and take it as far as you can.

At stake is exposure to industry leaders, mentorships with people that make the pictures that you love, and an invitation to SPD’s annual black tie gala.

Mohawk Paper

Mohawk Paper Show Design Contest 2012

Contest Title: The Mohawk Show

Category: Graphic Design/Branding

Who may enter: Graphic Design Students and Graphic Design Professionals

Cost: Free

Deadline: May 31, 2012

Prizes:

–Four best of show winners will receive $5000 each;

–$2,500 will be paid to the winning design team in each of these three special categories: Sustainable Design, Strathmore Showcase and Digital Print;

–15 honorable mentions will be awarded $500 each.

Details: Mohawk Fine Papers celebrates the designers who make concrete the complex communications of our culture, who go beyond the expected and make visuals extraordinary. Have you designed, printed, or made something amazing on Mohawk paper? All published work produced between June 2010 and May 31, 2012 is eligible, including corporate brochures, annual reports, direct mail, books, letterheads, posters, and more. Enter as many projects as you like.

Adobe Design Achievement Awards 2012 poster

Contest Title: 2012 Adobe Design Achievement Awards

Category: Graphic Design and Digital Media

Who may enter: Graphic Design Students, Digital Media Students

Cost: Free

Deadline: April 27, 2012 and June 22, 2012

Prizes: Finalists will receive Adobe software and a trip to Los Angeles, California where they will be honored in an awards ceremony during Adobe MAX, October 20-24, 2012. Category winners will also receive a cash award of US $3,000.

Details: The Awards celebrate innovative students and faculty members from all over the world for their achievements using the dynamic combination of technology and the creative arts. The competition – which showcases individual and group projects created with industry-leading Adobe creative software – honors the most talented and promising student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, developers and computer artists from the world’s top institutions of higher education.

For this year’s competition, students are encouraged to CREATE YOUR WINGS AND FLY.

Digital Replay

Historical document discovered via Digital Replay contest

Contest Title: Digital Replay

Category: Graphic Design, Digital Media

Who may enter: Any citizen or resident of the United States

Cost: Free

Deadline: June 1, 2012

Prizes: The best submissions will be included in the Digital Replay digital art gallery displayed online

Details: Digital Replay is a chance for you to showcase your creativity by using, manipulating, and remixing historical documents, photos and designs to produce a new digital art form. Participants may create a project using any type of medium: a collage, digital print, poster, paper mache, music inspired by historical documents found at World Digital Library and Memory of the World.

The purpose of the project is to raise awareness of the existence of historical documents. While we ask that the artist describe or detail the message that he/she wishes to convey through the art, there is no particular message that we are seeking. Our primary goal is for people to use historical documents to make something unique and interesting.
