CDs have been around for over thirty years now. Just like any printed medium in a digitalized quickly evolving world like ours, people discuss them becoming obsolete just like the vinyl records of the seventies. Even if CD packages did become paperless, the need for bold, creative, and eye-catching design would never diminish. If anything, digitalized packaging will become more of a challenge for the designer as they use two dimensions instead of three.
Graphic Design (Branding) Students at FIDM / Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising are required to take the class “Brand-X” where students investigate the visual and physical personality of a current brand and develop an effective visual identity for it, utilizing all applicable marketing materials. For this project, students chose a band or artist and then redesigned one of their album’s CD packaging.
We have listed ten CD package redesign concepts from recent FIDM Graphic Design graduates for your inspiration.
