Season Four of Signal Snowboard’s “Every Third Thursday” Web Series Kicks Off With Underwater Snowboard
In the season premiere of Signal Snowboard’s Every Third Thursday web series, the Signal crew attempts to use the naturally occurring deep ocean pressure to replace the role of a pneumatic press. For those who do not know, the pneumatic press is the machinery currently used to bind the layers of a snowboard together in production.
On location in New Zealand’s Milford Sound, ETT host Dave Lee and Signal Snowboard’s co-founder Marc Wierenga hastily assemble the layers of the snowboard, then sink the final product 100 feet (30 meters) deep under the ocean with hopes that the pressure at these great depths will bind the layers. Natural production—is it possible? We find out in this episode of ETT!
ETT Season 4, Episode 1 – Under Pressure
Signal states, “Well, it’s finally here! The new season of ETT kicked off this morning. ‘Board Overboard’ or the underwater press is an idea that an avid ETT watcher, and professional scuba diver/snowboarder in New Zealand thought of as he was floating around under the sea. The atmospheric pressure changes rapidly as you descend and we loved the challenge of building a board without a major piece of equipment like our pneumatic press.”
Signal Snowboards & FIDM
This year has been a great one for the relationship between Signal Snowboards and FIDM / Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
Earlier this year, FIDM collaborated with Signal for FIDM’s DEBUT 2013 Runway Show where Signal selected eleven snowboard designs by FIDM Graphic Design Students to be produced as one-off custom boards. Signal’s own team manager, Joey Yorba and pro boarder Pat Garvin were among the models who donned winter action sports attire designed by FIDM Advanced Fashion Design Student, Kelly Knaggs for the runway.
FIDM has also been featured in a previous episode of Every Third Thursday! Watch fashion collide with the action sports industry in this special episode of ETT! which can be found below.
