Featured Event: Visual Essays for Public Citizen by FIDM Digital Media Students Being Shown at Brentwood Theater June 12
Brentwood Theater is hosting an event where four visual essays developed by Digital Media Alumni from FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising will be shown on June 12 at 6:30 p.m. The event is called Stand Up for Main Street, an “all-star comedy benefit” for Public Citizen, a consumer advocacy nonprofit organization.
Prior to the comedy show, the theater will be presenting the videos on the topics of public issues such as alternative energy and substance abuse. The organizer and host, Steve Skrovan, has also invited the FIDM Digital Media Alumni R.J. Somerville, Katie Mead, Chris Mumford and Brandon Augustus Ramirez as guests, who created the videos while attending FIDM under the direction of FIDM Digital Media Instructor Ryan Nellis.
Over the course of 10 weeks, the students used After Effects to animate graphics, kinetic typography, illustration, photography, and videos, all with voiceover, and using scripts written by Public Citizen to bring the public issues to life, says Nellis.
“The project has been incredibly rewarding as the students have expanded their knowledge of important issues with an end result that will hopefully encourage other young people to take action, maybe even make their own films,” says Nellis.
