Q&A with FIDM Grad Angelica Raquid: Graphic Designer for NBA Player Metta World Peace

Courtside Access magazine was just an idea that Angelica Raquid mocked up for the purpose of showing off her publication design skills in her final FIDM Graphic Design portfolio, and now she’s witnessing her concept come to life thanks to NBA Lakers player Metta World Peace (formerly known as Ron Artest).

“It’s not the original physical magazine I had originally imagined, but it’s basically the spawn of my concept,” says Raquid who graduated from FIDM in 2011 and currently works for the Lakers star as a Junior Graphic Designer.

One of her class projects as a Graphic Design Student at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising required that Raquid develop an imagined magazine cover and table of contents. Raquid designed a sports-centric magazine featuring Metta World Peace on the cover of her mock magazine. Years later, after being hired as a Junior Graphic Designer for the NBA player, Raquid showed him her portfolio and “he liked it so much that actually started marketing it,” she says.
