Motion Monday: Title Graphics for “Unchained Reaction” Inspires Our Inner Science Geek

Did you grow up playing Mouse Trap or excelling at your school’s science fair? Discovery Channel’s Unchained Reaction series is right up your alley.

Unchained Reaction pits two teams of varying backgrounds against each other to build an elaborate chain reaction contraption. The competitors consisting of “artists, rocket scientists, animatronic specialists, engineers and your average Joe” are provided with identical tools and materials to build a contraption with an elaborate series of mechanisms based around a specific theme.

The opening title motion graphics for the show captures the excitable spirit of science geekery. Illustrated ping-pong balls are catapulted through an unpredictable series of gears and spinning arms with clinking, tapping, whirring sounds that help guide the movement.

Italy-based firm, Alkanoids, handled the design, 3D, animation and post production for  this 30 second title sequence.
