As a young Dutch artist, Mike Frederiqo started his career tattooing and producing graffiti art but recently turned his attention to painting and graphic design. Now living in The Netherlands, Frederiqo has become known for tweaking designs, turning them from one thing into another. Last year, Frederiqo transformed the famous cartoon character SpongeBob Squarepants into various designers and celebrities including Kanye West, Terry Richardson, Karl Lagerfeld and Jay -Z.
This year, Frederiqo has completed another series of unique and intriguing graphics titled “Logos by Mike Frederiqo” in which he adapted the logos of famous fashion brands that incorporate caricature illustrations of the faces that define the brand.
Although these designs don’t serve much of a function, the synergistic approach of combining well-known bold logos with whimsical illustrations is a design decision worth noting. When the audience realizes the connection between the logo and its founder, an “aha!” moment is created that strengthens their ability to remember and share the content. The ability to evoke an emotional response from the viewer is an important aspect of any design’s success.
