Lisa Hoffman, FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Instructor and Department Coordinator for Graphic Design, Visual Communications, and Beauty Industry Merchandising & Marketing at the San Francisco campus is also a visual artist. Last year, Hoffman was commissioned by Oakland’s Koreatown Northgate Community Benefit District to design a utility box and companion meter as part of a special re-branding of the uptown Oakland area. That utility box and meter rebranding featured art from “PopDot”, an ongoing art series with some recent additions.
Hoffman recently unveiled two new works from this series (seen above) in San Leandro California that were installed in December 2014 and January 2015. This is the first public “PopDot” printed on vinyl and heat adhered to the surface. In the past she used a series of laser cut stencils and spray paint that took five days to paint. The “Buttons and Zippers” piece is located in downtown San Leandro at E. 14th Street and Estudillo. The “Lightning” piece is a few miles away alongside La Piñata. Visit Hoffman’s website to see more pictures from this project. Great work Lisa!
