As a native of Los Angeles, California, Jen Elbogen has been surrounded by the entertainment industry since childhood. She graduated from FIDM’s Graphic Design/Entertainment program in September and already landed a job at FIVE33, an international communications and brand-marketing agency based in Los Angeles and London.
Prior to attending FIDM, Jen had worked an Art Director in A/V (Audio/Video) and had decided to tackle a different facet of the industry, she says.
“After ten years of being a producer, and helping along the creative process, I realized that I wanted to be the one sitting at the computer making a lot of those creative decisions myself,” she says. “Basically, I wanted to do the art myself, not instruct others on what the client wants.”
As a designer at FIVE33, Jen’s job now entails writing, producing, designing comps, logos, layouts and file preparation for print media projects. Five33 client list includes companies like Bloomingdale’s, Adidas Sport, Footlocker, Warner Brothers, Touchstone Pictures and Walt Disney Studios, to name a few. Jen got her foot in the door by interning at Five33 during her second quarter at FIDM, which led to an offer for a full-time position. Ultimately, she would like to become a Creative Director for print, she says.
Jen heard of FIDM for its reputation for its excellent key art design program (key art includes movie posters and marketing for feature films- which is a major focus within the Graphic Design/Entertainment curriculum).
“I learned the hands on skill set I needed to get to the next level in my career, and get in the door at a print agency [at FIDM],” she says.
