Our Favorites from the “Into the Pixel” Video Game Art & Design Exhibition at E3 2014

The FIDMDigitalarts team was lucky enough to attend this year’s E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) video game convention in downtown Los Angeles– an annual tradition for us. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, enthusiasm, and stunning visuals from all directions. We immediately went to check out the “Into the Pixel” video game art exhibition, one of our favorite E3 traditions.

“Into the Pixel, now in it’s eleventh year, is the world’s only exhibition that brings together experts from fine art establishments and the interactive entertainment industry to explore and celebrate the art of the video game.”

Although the fun factor of playing a game is exciting, it’s only one of the many elements that makes up a successful video game. An often overlooked element of a successful video game is the overall art and design. This includes things like character design, scenery design, object design, user interface design, in-game graphic design, and many others. Certain design choices such as color palette and artistic style can help set the mood for the entire game.

Scroll down to see a few of our favorites from this year’s exhibition.
