Amy and Jen Hood make up the creative team at Hoodzpah Art & Graphics in Orange County, CA where the twin sisters design everything from logos and brand identity systems, to marketing materials, tattoos and graphic novels. Hoodzpah’s designs reflect an organic, illustrative aesthetic, capturing the free-spirited nature of the surf and skate audience that their clients appeal to. For example, check out the playful graphic elements in the Super Summer Mixtape Guide– 2011 (below) commissioned by Local Magazine where the Hoods incorporate lots of hand-drawn infographics, with layered photos, textures and refined typography. The final product not only organizes a TON of information into a cohesive presentation, it maintains a carefree vibe that is consistent throughout the entire publication.
Their portfolio site (here) offers great insight into their creative process. For example, check out the sketches that the Hood sisters developed for surfboard brands Muskoka Surfboard Co. and Almond Surfboards below. Check out this link where Jen explains the creative process behind the final logo that Muskoka Surfboard Co. selected to represent the brand.
