FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising hosted more than 90 Graphic Design and Digital Media Alumni at LACMA/Los Angeles County Museum of Art for FIDM’s annual Graphic Design/Digital Media Alumni networking mixer. FIDMDigitalArts.com caught up with Alumni while they enjoyed boxed lunches and toured LACMA’s Tim Burton retrospective exhibit, which honors his work as a film director, artist, illustrator, photographer, and writer.
Events such as the annual mixer allow both new and seasoned Alumni the opportunity to make connections that could lead to jobs for the Graphic Design and Digital Media Alumni. According to FIDM Alumni Relations Coordinator, Bill Cliatt, between 60 to 80 percent of jobs are found through networking– either career-related networking or social networking. “That is why we are so focused on these events,” he says.
FIDMDigitalArts.com was excited to catch up with Graphic Design Alumni like Evan Stone, (who recently launched his own apparel line Makhai Clothing) and Julina Grace, (who was recently hired as a full-time graphic designer at Hurley); and Digital Media Alumni Justin Hamilton, a motion graphics designer at Create Advertising (who we featured in an article here) and Eugene “Gene” Silva, a freelance motion graphics designer. To honor the unique and slightly sinister style of Burton, FIDMDigitalArts.com asked Alumni about their own personal design style, and what designers influence their work. Read more below:
