We loved watching Will and his son Jaden Smith light up the silver screen in the 2006 tear-jerker “The Pursuit of Happyness” in which the father-son duo deliver heart-breakingly bittersweet performances that put Jaden on the map and landed Will an Academy Award nomination. To our delight, they are teaming up again this summer in the upcoming sci-fi thriller “After Earth,” although it seems Jaden might take center stage this time.
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the relationship between father and son again seems to be a theme in “After Earth” according to the trailer (developed by leading digital media agency Create Advertising). Unlike other dreary post-apocalyptic films, a planet lush with green plants and deadly creatures sets the stage for Cypher Raige (Will) and his son Kitai (Jaden), who find themselves stranded on a future Earth after their spaceship crashes. While Cypher remains helplessly wounded, Kitai ventures forth solo to signal for help, battling “uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash,” according to ComingSoon.net.
Just because our current movie-watching time is solely dedicated to watching as many Academy Award nominated flicks as possible doesn’t mean we can’t look forward to Summer blockbusters.
We’re also loving movie posters coming out for the film as well. Below, scope out the beautiful lighting and compositions of an unofficial movie poster designed by Hopko Designs (Cortland, New York), and the official key art for “After Earth” (agency unknown).
