Typography Tuesday: Five (Free!) Downloadable Slab Serif Fonts We Love

We recently did an article showcasing some of our favorite, free, downloadable script fonts. Today, we would like to share with you some of our favorite slab serif fonts that are available to download for free. In case you were wondering, a slab serif is a type of serif typeface that is characterized by thick, bold, block-like serifs.

As a graphic designer, I’m always looking for new high quality fonts to use at my disposal and make this job a bit easier. The more typefaces you have at your fingertips, the more flexibility you have in your design choices. Below, I compiled five high quality slab serif typefaces for you to download and use for free. These were found at one of my favorite typography websites, Lost Type. Be sure to check them out if you find yourself in need of nice font downloads.

As a graduate of FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising’s Graphic Design program, I also understand the importance of supporting the typography design community, so I recommend paying for fonts when you can afford to, and especially when you are creating commercial work for freelance clients. As always, make sure to check the licensing agreements on each font before using them for commercial purposes.

Typography is just one of many areas of study for those earning their Graphic Design or Digital Media degree at FIDM.
