FIDM Graphic Design Alumna Owns Hollywood Art Gallery, “PROJECT Gallery + Espresso”

FIDM Graphic Design Alumna Sarah Gough is the owner of a Hollywood art gallery opening later this month PROJECT Gallery + Espresso.

Promising fine art, culture, and caffeine, PROJECT Gallery + Espresso will house ongoing art exhibitions and an espresso bar, says Gough, which is a unique concept to the art industry.

FIDM Graphic Design Alumna owns Hollywood art gallery, PROJECT Gallery + Espresso“There are lots of cafés with art on the wall, but no full-blown art galleries that just so happen to have an amazing espresso bar in it,” says Gough. “My mission is to have an active space where people know they can find really amazing art, hear some great music, taste the best espresso and always have something to look forward to for the next time.”

Gough has been remodeling the space located at 1553 N. Cahuenga Boulevard since March and will open PROJECT’s doors for a soft opening (sans the espresso bar) on Saturday, September 22 for an exhibit featuring artist Zio Ziegler, who has painted a massive custom mural in the space. Zielger’s silkscreen clothing line Arte Sempre will also be available for purchase.

Gough graduated from FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising with a degree in Graphic Design in 2009 and has since been applying her skills to develop the logo, brand identity and other marketing materials to promote the gallery.

“My background in graphic design has helped me tremendously,” she says. “For starters, when I was looking for a space to house Project, I felt like I was able to envision things more easily, looking for things like balance, contrast, and overall design. I did do my own branding, which is a blessing and a curse– I love it but I always want to change things!”

“I think that design students can learn a lot by visiting the gallery, I like to think they will be inspired to think outside the box,” says Gough. “Get inspired by what’s around you and soak everything in. Throw things out to the Universe and see what comes back, you never know until you try! That is how I approach what I am doing as a gallery owner, and what I believe the artists exhibited at Project are creating.”

Details: Project Gallery is proudly opening Lost Illusions, featuring new work by Zio Ziegler, an established San Francisco bay area muralist and painter.

Zio’s work reflects a symbiotic relationship between classical and contemporary, urban and natural, and the indigenous and foreign. The tribal elements that adorn his paintings are conducive to the environment in which they are created. Inspired by classical philosophy, literature and art, Zio offers a unique perspective on nature and the human experience.

Zio’s murals can be seen in the Mission District of San Francisco and the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park and his canvasses were exposed at the Carmichael Gallery. Visit zioziegler.com and artesempre.com for more information.

I love Zio’s work! I’m totally going to this. Will you be featuring any other artists any time soon?
