FIDM Digital Media Students Take Us Behind the Scenes with FIDM Productions

FIDM’s in-house film production department, FIDM Productions, is responsible for creating the visually stunning campus tour videos featuring our beautiful California campuses seen below. Students studying Digital Media at FIDM also often get the opportunity to work with the FIDM Productions team, participating in everything from on-set production to post-production.

Recently FIDM Digital Arts caught up with two FIDM Digital Media Students Emily Müller and Miranda Villalba who got to act as extras on set during the filming of the FIDM Los Angeles campus tour video (currently in post-production) and also gave us some insight into their experience as FIDM Digital Media Students.

Being on set during the filming of the LA campus tour helped Müller understand what it takes to create such a unique video, she says. All of the FIDM campus tour videos feature lengthy, steady cam single-shot takes with seamless transitions between scenes that are cut together during post-production to create a sensation of ‘flying’ through campus.

“I learned a lot about the importance of timing between the camera and actors, and what objects are good for the camera for transitions,” says Müller who graduated earlier this year and is currently working as an ecommerce intern for DASH Boutique and at an entertainment industry temp agency.

Villalba, who recently graduated from the FIDM Digital Media program and aspires to be a trailer editor or motion graphics designer, says what she enjoys most about the program was the hands-on learning from industry experts.

“The enthusiasm that the teachers speak with when they teach makes me excited and [inspired] to be more passionate about my work,” says Villalba. “I enjoyed the hands on learning with actual people from the industry that I want to be a part of.”
