Since earning her Graphic Design degree from FIDM /Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in 2011, Kathy Calderon has been working as a Lead Graphic and Web Designer at Cristophe Salon in Beverly Hills, where she works on everything from packaging to Web design, photography and video editing.
As a Lead Graphic and Web Designer, Calderon works on creative projects on a daily basis. She created a sleek new logo to represent the Cristophe brand; promotional materials like business cards and invites; and redesigned the salon’s Website to include a press page, products and team page.
“I have used everything I learned at FIDM. It feels great when your boss has an idea and you’re able to bring it to life,” she says. “You can make yourself indispensable with all the courses you learn at FIDM. I really don’t think that I could’ve found a better program anywhere else.”
Even though she spends her day designing for Cristophe Salon, Calderon’s creativity doesn’t stop at the end of her shift.
Striving to maintain a balance between the sleek, modern and sophisticated designs that she develops for Cristophe Salon’s brand, and the whimsical, illustrative style that comes naturally to her, Calderon decided to launch her own Blog solely dedicated to her drawings.
“I usually don’t know what I’m drawing until my pencil is on the paper,” she says. “Most of the time I start with one idea and it evolves into something completely different. My characters usually have giant glossy eyes, big teeth and a weight problem.”
