By FIDM Digital Media Student, Brianna Kim
The Digital Media program at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising offers Cinematography courses where students can learn all about the technical aspects of production including filming, lighting, camera angles, and more. As a Digital Media Student, I was able to work on a couple of projects these past two quarters, during which I was able to be in full control over all the production and post-production aspects. I realized that there is so much more to film than what meets the eye. Although there were some difficulties, these were ultimately projects that challenged me to use the knowledge, abilities, and skills that FIDM’s Digital Media program has taught me.
For my first video project, I had the wonderful opportunity to interview famous dancer, interior designer, and YouTube figure, Yuri Tag. I had always seen her in YouTube collaboration videos, so meeting her and talking with her was a great experience. In the interview, she shares her experiences performing on the TV series America’s Best Dance Crew, and also as an interior designer. Through this you can find out about her spiritual journey towards faith and assurance in her life. Watch as she shares about the things she is passionate about in her life of creativity and faith… I hope you are inspired by her story as much as I was.
My second interview was with a FIDM Graduate, Reggie Aguiluz. This was a chance for me to really experiment and try out various resources and new ideas that were presented in my second Cinematography class. It is amazing how much you learn in each quarter and how much you grow as a student as each quarter passes. Reggie Aguiluz has found success in the industry and in the interview, he shares not only his wonderful experiences at FIDM, but also his experiences in the industry. Find out about his new men’s line VDE, and also what advice he has to give for students pursuing a career in the industry. You can find out more about his line at shopvde.com
I have found that storytelling is a passion of mine and I find it to be even more exciting when expressing it through film and video. I find it to be very rewarding to listen to someone’s story and express and share it in your own creative style. Hopefully these interview videos have shown the importance of passion and creativity in life.
