Design a Logo for “No Doubt,” T-Shirt for Footlocker in these Upcoming Design Contests

If you’re an aspiring entertainment graphic designer like many students at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, there are two upcoming design contests focused on the music industry that might spark your interest.

Grammy Award-winning ska band No Doubt is offering graphic designers the opportunity to design their logo with $3,000 up for grabs, and national retailer Footaction USA (also known as Footlocker) has launched a T-shirt contest around the theme “Own the Stage” in collaboration with musical rap artist, J. Cole. Read details below:

Deadline: September 11, 2012


The Brief: No Doubt will be releasing their highly anticipated sixth studio album, Push And Shove, on September 25, 2012. In celebration of the album and the release of its lead single “Settle Down,” No Doubt is inviting fans and creative designers to be a part of it all. Aspiring designers have the opportunity to design a new logo for the band and the chosen winner’s logo will be featured on merchandise for Push And Shove.


The Prize:

No Doubt’s Choice (Grand Prize)

No Doubt will select one winner who will have their design featured on Push And Shove’s merchandise in celebration of the album’s September 25, 2012 launch.

In addition the winner will receive:

 $3,000
 A copy of Adobe Creative Suite 6, value of $699
 A printed and framed copy of the winning artwork, signed by No Doubt
 Exposure for their submission, which will be featured across No Doubt’s website and social media channels

People’s Choice Prize

The highest voted will receive:

 $1,000
 Exposure for their submission which will be featured on No Doubt’s website and social media channels


Voting is from September 12, 2012 – September 18, 2012, with the winner announced on September 25, 2012.

Own the Stage Design Contest

Footaction's "Own the Stage" T-shirt Contest

Deadline: September 10, 2012

The Brief: National athletic footwear and apparel retailer Footaction USA presents Own the Stage, a contest inviting aspiring designers to submit a T-shirt design online for a chance to win $5000 in cash, and a trip to LA. Musical artist J.Cole will also wear the Grand Prize winner’s shirt during an upcoming performance.

The Prize:

Four winners will get two round trip airfares, two-night hotel accommodations, $500 and a meet-and-greet with musical rap artist J. Cole. One of these four winners will be awarded the Grand Prize and get his or her design created and worn by J. Cole during the performance, along with $5,000 in cash.

The Specs:

 Ink Color Options: 5 color maximum
 Image Proportions: maximum of 14″ wide x 19″ tall
 Resolution: 300dpi or larger
 Acceptable File Formats: Illustrator, vectored files would be the preferred format; Photoshop (.jpeg, .png) are also acceptable

About J. Cole

The first artist signed to Jay-Z’s new Roc Nation label, Cole dropped his recent mixtape The Warm Up, and was a guest artist on JAY-Z’s Blueprint 3 “A Star is Born” single. Soulful and strong, J.
