Gavin Lucas at The Creative Review recently posted a great article about type designer and illustrator Seb Lester’s typography-driven limited edition screen prints. The designer released the short film below to promote one of the prints called Stars (see the photos below).
Lucas explains how Lester’s Stars print makes use of a quote by famous Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh and upon closer inspection, you discover that the letters are actually made up of hundreds of thousands of tiny stars (see below).
Don’t miss this one (below), an invertible ambigram titled “Blazing” which means that it reads both right-side up, and upside-down. This print is available for purchase exclusively through POW (Pictures on Walls), which carries works by extremely talented and well known artists including Banksy and Antony Micallef.
“With ‘Dreams’ (below) I really wanted to push myself creatively and technically to produce something showy, intricate and hopefully beautiful,” says Lester. “The five lettering styles I developed are, as always, drawn from scratch. I was inspired by some of the finest lettering in history but aimed to produce work that looks contemporary, stylish and relevant today.”
