Vote For FIDM to Win Canstruction Orange County’s People’s Choice Award

When creativity and charity are combined you get Canstruction, the most unique food charity in the world. Canstruction is a nonprofit organization that holds annual design and build competitions to construct beautiful structures made entirely out of canned food. At the end of these competitions, the structures are dismantled and the canned food gets donated to local food banks for distribution. According to their website, the mission of Canstruction is to “engage, amaze and inspire the community to work together raising canned food to feed hundreds of thousands of hungry people. Wherever a Canstruction competition is held thousands of hungry people are fed, a greater awareness of the issues surrounding hunger is brought home to the public, and a spotlight is placed on the design and construction industry giving back to the communities it helps build.”

This year, FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising participated in Orange County’s Canstruction which benefits the Orange County Food Bank. FIDM Students have built a ball gown out of 7,000 tuna cans, entitled “Ending Hunger is a Formal Affair.” Seventeen teams have their creative works on display at South Coast Plaza through September 29. Around 125 tons of food have been donated for the event, which is part of the Festival of Children. Each year, Canstruction offers a People’s Choice Award. We invite you to show your support and vote for FIDM.
