Do you take note of the typefaces (a.k.a. fonts) used on signs, billboards or other printed materials? Some typefaces are more commonly used than others and have been in existence for centuries. Test your knowledge of well known typefaces with The Rather Difficult Font Game from the I Love Typography Website, which challenges you to identify the typeface used in 34 examples of short phrases. Experts beware: it’s not as easy as you think! If you know the difference between serif and sans serif, between Arial and Helvetica, and why you should never use a script typeface in a large block of text, this game might be for you. (For someone who claims to be a moderately knowledgeable typography lover, I only scored 19/34). Click here to check out the game for yourself. The FIDMDigitalArts.com Blog thanks FIDM Alumna Bianca Lowken for recommending this Website.
The game is also available in the form of an iPhone application (click here).
Typography is one of the many courses in the Graphic Design program at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, which prepares students for careers in graphic design within the apparel and entertainment industries. The Graphic Design/Branding option stimulates creative expression in all aspects of print media, including logo development, corporate identity, product branding and licensing, packaging, collateral material, and graphics for apparel products while the Graphic Design/Entertainment option studies the components and techniques of a successful entertainment campaign using extensive research to create and develop theatrical key art for the entertainment industry.
